Did you know that we live on a planet?
Did you know, deep, deep down?
Most people think about the earth, nature, and "the environment" as things that exist, sure, but are in some way separate from themselves and the human endeavors that make up everyday life. We have relegated office buildings, grocery stores, and the ever-expanding virtual network of computers we call the internet, to a position in our consciousness distinct from that of corn fields, oceans, and natural disasters.
We must change these conceptualizations, in order to recognize the graveness of the situation we have created for ourselves, as well as to find solutions to despair and destruction on whatever scale we can. In our communities, in our relationships, and on our planet, positive change is possible.
I write weekly articles about sustainability, environmental history, and other interwoven topics. My goal is to disrupt the damaging regimes that have attempted to separate us from nature, and to re-tell human stories with an emphasis on our place within, and as a fundamental part of, nature.
Occasionally I turn focus to specific projects in other forms, such as longer form essays or multimedia projects. These may be intertwined with my regular weekly articles, or may replace them for a focused rollout period. All work is in service of my broader goal to interrogate our relationship with the natural world.
